Our purpose is to help authors get from the ‘final’ draft to a polished, professionally produced book that bookstores are happy to carry. If we think your fiction or non-fiction story is worth telling, and well-written enough to be worth reading, we’ll help it shine.
The owner and lead editor of the business is me, Susan Young. I took over Jonathan Sturm’s Ashwood Books in 2021 after a career in academia, teaching, and editing educational materials. I have worked with authors in Canada, the UK, and Denmark as well as Australia. I am a member of the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) and the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), which require professional experience and training, ongoing professional development, and adherence to a code of ethics.
Ashwood is now a thriving small publisher with a steady stream of new books, yet still small enough to provide personalised service and work closely with authors on each project. We don’t do cookie-cutter ‘packages’; all Ashwood books undergo a thorough, multi-round editing and design process. We quote for each project as a whole and, once we’re committed to it, we put in whatever it takes. It’s a collaborative, back-and-forth process as we work together to achieve your goals and polish the work to the highest professional standards.
Contact Susan about your book and your publishing goals. If your manuscript sounds like a good fit, we’ll ask to see it and send it back with helpful comments and, if it’s one we’d like to do, a free sample edit and quote.
